Metal Roofing 101
When it comes to protecting your home from the elements, choosing the right roofing material is crucial. Metal roofs
have gained significant popularity in recent years due to their exceptional durability, energy efficiency, and aesthetic
appeal. We will explore the advantages of metal roofs over traditional asphalt shingle and concrete tile roofs.
Durability
Metal roofs are durable, strong and engineered for all-weather
protection. They can last for 50+ years with little or no maintenance protecting your home for decades to come.
Energy Efficiency
Through the application of heat deflecting metal coatings, energy costs can
be reduced up to 40% or more, according to a study by the Oak Ridge
National laboratory.
Lightweight
"When you put a heavy mass on your home, like a concrete roof versus lightweight
metal or cedar shake, it causes problems when the ground shakes," said James A.
Bihr, a structural engineer and co-author of a study on the effects of the 6.8 Northridge
earthquake on residential roofs.
Both standing seam and stone-coated metal roofs weigh approximately 1.5 pounds
per square foot.
Fire
Safety
On October 20th, 1991 with wind gusts up to 65 mph, a brush fire quickly spread throughout the Berkeley Hills of Oakland, California. The fire spread burning embers from house to house devastating nearly 2,900 single family homes. This image showed a lone metal roof that survived on of the worst fires in California history.
